Sinner vs. Paul 4th round: Sinner in 3.

Sinner to SF.

Zverev's Quarter:

Monfils vs. Zverev 3rd round: Zverev in 5.

Zverev to the SF.

Fritz's Quarter:

Djokovic vs. Tiafoe 4th round: Djokovic in 4. Tiafoe is too unreliable for me.

Djokovic vs. Fritz QF: Djokovic in 5.

Alcaraz's Quarter:

Alcaraz vs. Medvedev 4th round: Alcaraz in 4. Hope this match becomes as good as it could be on paper.

Alcaraz vs. Shelton QF: Alcaraz in 3.

Sinner vs. Zverev SF: Sinner in 4.

Djokovic vs. Alcaraz SF: Alcaraz in 5.

I would have picked Djokovic to beat Alcaraz if he hadn't already done so at the AO this year. Not sure if Djokovic can beat him twice in a year.

Sinner vs. Alcaraz Finals: Sinner in 3.

Sabalenka's Quarter:

Sabalenka to the SF.

Pegula's Quarter:

Emma Navarro to the SF.

Gauff's Quarter:

Osaka vs. Gauff 4th round: Osaka hasn't gone deep in a major in a long time. I'll give her a chance here. Osaka in 2.

Osaka vs. Keys QF: Keys in 2.

Swiatek's Quarter:

Swiatek to the SF.

Sabalenka vs. Navarro SF: Sabalenka in 2.

Keys vs. Swiatek SF: Swiatek in 3.

Sabalenka vs. Swiatek Finals: Sabalenka in 2. Not sure about this.

Thoughts on Medvedev vs. Bonzi?

I agree with Medvedev on the principle. The photographer ran out just before the 2nd serve. Bonzi was given a 1st serve again. Bonzi should have been given another 2nd serve, not 1st serve.

That was a bizarre scene for sure with the photographer accidentally going onto the court. Medvedev was a big crybaby because by rule Bonzi should have gotten a first serve. AFAIK any interruption on the second serve that results in something going onto the court that's not the fault of the server, the server gets a first serve.

ChatGPT says:

Quote:
the ITF Rules of Tennis (and USTA regulations, which govern the US Open) say that if play is interrupted by something outside the players’ control"for example, a ball rolling on court from another match, a spectator interference, or in this case a photographer stepping onto the court"then the point should be replayed.

Specifically:

Rule 23 ("The Let"): A let is called if “play is interrupted by an event outside the player’s control.”

USTA Comment 23.3: If a second serve is interrupted by such an outside factor, the server is entitled to a first serve, not a second.

If that had happened to Medvedev and he didn't get a first serve, I'd bet he would've gone ballistic. Glad Bonzi pulled through. The raucous ones in the crowd obviously just wanted to see more tennis and didn't understand or care about the rule.

Just pointing out that this trend seems to continue. I never get a notification when the first reply in a thread that I created is made.

I only get notifications when subsequent replies are made.

This pattern has continued for years.

Thanks for posting the rule. Ok, I guess it's a hard rule that the entire point is replayed. Since that's the case, then Medvedev should have known better.

I remember in 2011 or 2012, when balls kept falling out of Andy Murray's pocket at the US Open.

Wimbledon:

Hmm, I guess it was Wimbledon. I thought it happened another time at the US Open.

I tried to debug, but seeing the code flow it seems that the issue is that if the user doesn't do a "reply" there is no notification? Did you "Watch this topic for replies"?

Yeah seemed like Murray got point penalties because of that- pretty rare nowadays for sure to see that happen.

Did you hear what Ostepenko said to Townsend saying she has "no class" and "no education. Who has no class?

I'll check the next time I start a thread, to see if I'm enabling "notify me when a reply is posted".

Yeah seems like Ostepenko is a hot head. It took a few days, but she apologized later.

American men didn't do that great with Tiafoe losing early and Shelton getting hurt. Fritz still did well.

American women did great again, especially Anisimova.
